American Hickory is one of the hardest and most durable domestic hardwoods, known for its contrast between pale blond sapwood and warmer medium-brown heartwood. Calico Hickory highlights that full natural range, creating a bold, varied surface with strong grain movement and substantial character from board to board.

In wide plank construction, Calico Hickory creates a highly active surface with long grain lines, light-and-dark contrast, and a strong architectural presence.

Wide plank countertops are made from wider full-length boards selected and arranged to showcase the continuous grain of the wood. This construction style creates a furniture-like appearance with fewer glue lines than traditional butcher block, making it especially well suited for islands, bar tops, desks, vanities, and statement surfaces.

Every countertop is made to order and available in a range of sizes, edge profiles, and finish options. Choose from food-safe finishes including mineral oil and beeswax, tung oil, Rubio Monocoat, or our durable Impermio film finish for enhanced moisture and stain resistance.

Rubio Monocoat is available in a range of colors, which can be reviewed on the Rubio Monocoat color guide. Some Rubio color selections may require additional charges depending on the color, application requirements, or project specifications.

Each countertop is made to order based on the dimensions, edge profile, finish, and project details you select. If your project requires unusual sizing, special cutouts, matching pieces, waterfall construction, or other custom details, include those notes when ordering or contact us before placing your order.

For the most accurate fit, we recommend confirming your final measurements after cabinets, supports, or appliances are installed. Most custom wide plank countertops with a mineral oil finish are ready to ship in approximately 1–2 weeks. Lead times may vary based on order size, wood availability, production schedule, and project complexity.

Finish selection can affect production time. Rubio Monocoat typically adds about 3 days. Pure tung oil and Impermio Film Finish typically add about 5–7 days because they require additional curing and handling time before the countertop can be packaged safely.

Larger countertops, multiple-piece orders, custom edge profiles, cutouts, waterfall details, or special project notes may also extend lead time. We will contact you if your order requires clarification before production.

Countertops are carefully packaged for shipment after finishing and final inspection. Shipping time depends on destination, size, weight, and carrier requirements. Before delivery, please review our shipping and receiving guidelines so you know what to expect when your countertop arrives.

Allow your countertop time to acclimate to its installation environment before securing it in place. Store it flat, fully supported, and away from direct heat, moisture, or extreme humidity changes.

Countertops should not be left uninstalled for more than two weeks. Solid wood responds to changes in temperature and humidity, and extended storage without proper installation can increase the risk of movement.

Calico Hickory intentionally includes strong natural variation in color, grain, figure, and plank layout. Pale blond sapwood, warmer medium-brown heartwood, mineral streaks, knots, color transitions, and other character marks may be present and are expected features of this wood selection. Natural aging, finish choice, and exposure to light will also affect the appearance of Hickory over time.
