African Mahogany Countertops

Our most striking and colorful option, African Mahogany pieces are made from a blend of four Khaya species, with color tones running from a pale salmon to a golden-, orange- or reddish-brown.

The grain is straight and regular, with a dark red-brown tone, and a natural iridescent effect. Because it is sourced from different species, there can be significant variation in the appearance and color of the wood itself.

We recommend ordering a sample with your preferred finish, as each finish will have a different effect on the wood.

Please keep in mind that organic products will have natural variation, but these variations are normal and add depth and character to the product. Other factors such as age and exposure to light can further alter the appearance of the piece.

Edge Grain Butcher Block

We build our edge grain butcher block with premium quality, full-length boards turned on their edge so that the vertical grain is visible.

Our artisan woodworkers hand-select each board and arrange each piece to highlight the natural beauty of the wood and minimize drastic wood tone changes across boards.

• If you are looking for a low-maintenance finish, our food-safe acrylic polyurethane is highly resistant to water, stains and surface scratches. We recommend this as the best finish for wood countertops with a sink or cooktop.
• Finally, Rubio Monocoat's hard wax oil is a natural, plant-based and food-safe sealant that enhances the natural look and feel of the wood, and offers easy maintenance and repair.

When choosing edge profiles, it is important to consider how this piece will fit into your home and your family:

Elaborate edge profiles are beautiful, but are a challenge to clean and can be uncomfortable if the space is where your family will gather to eat and do homework. In particular, you may want something simpler if you will be baking and chopping directly on the butcher block.

We also tend to discourage the squared edge profile; solid wood countertops are durable but a sharp edge is susceptible to nicks and dings. If you're looking for a custom profile or one not shown here, please reach out to our design team.
